Area drag racers and automotive enthusiasts will fulfill their need for speed Saturday at zMAX Dragway for the first of four NOS Energy Test-N-Tunes in March. Serving as a shakedown for a full season of drag racing at the track, drivers of all skill levels can gain valuable experience at the Bellagio of drag strips.
Participants can dial-in their personal rides from dragsters, souped-up street bikes, classic cars, luxury cars and soccer-mom vans on the world’s only four-lane, all-concrete drag strip on March 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Tickets and registration will be available on the event day at zMAX Dragway. NOS Energy Test-N-Tunes are open to all street vehicles and race cars, but each vehicle must pass tech inspection.
Car-and-driver registration is only $20 per vehicle and tickets for spectators can be purchased at the gate for just $5. Kids 13 and under are free with a paying adult. For an additional entry fee of $10, racers can participate in a gambler’s race during the last hour of each event. The race is open to all vehicles and each winner will receive a NOS Energy prize package and a reserved parking place in the pit area for the next Test-N-Tune event.
Gates and registration open each Saturday at 9 a.m., with racing action from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Competitors will enter and set up on the John Force Grandstand (west) side. Helmets are required for all competitors that are 110 mph or faster at the quarter-mile. For a quick reference chart on safety aspects that must be met, please visit: http://www.nhra.com/competition/etquickref.aspx.
For motorcyclists: pants, helmet, jacket and gloves are acceptable under 120 mph at the quarter-mile. Those riding motorcycles faster than 120 mph must have leathers.
On March 17, NHRA chassis certifications will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the west side pit area. Certifications will be first come, first serve. If demand is high, a second certification date will be held on March 24.
