ParticipantHey so I am 16 years young and i am getting a new car pretty soon. I am only allowed to get new cars because my father finds used unreliable. I have a price limit around $0-$17,000. My choices that i chose which i am still thinking about are Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza hatchback 2011 version and the VW jetta. thats whats in my category. If you have any other opinions hit me up. I want a good first car.

ParticipantBeware of VWs! They may be affordable to buy, but they’re a fortune to maintain. I recently unloaded a Passat. In 63,000 miles, it went through 3 sets of axles, a waterpump, alternator, A/C and numerous other issues.
Mitsubishi is focusing more on electric cars in the future. Subarus aren’t too popular in South Florida, so I don’t know how good they are. For dependability, I’d go Honda or Toyota. Mazda3 is a good choice too, with plenty of go-fast aftermarket stuff. The Focus looks good as well, and has much in common with the Mazda. Good luck!

ParticipantI have an 08 VW Jetta 2.5L and I love it. It’s at 50k miles and I have had no problems. *knock on wood. I think you can’t go wrong with VWs. Another car you should look it is the Ford Focus. They look pretty sharp!
