I think the main issue is the policing of the specified parking areas. Why was a Mazda parked in the Classic section, etc? I’m not trying to single out any make or model, but since it was brought up……….. I drive a 73 Challenger, and there was not a single open space in the Classic section at 7:45 AM, so I went back home. The Challenger section was already filled, and not with only Challengers. I’ll probably try again next month, and hopefully I will be able to stay for the whole thing. That way I will not have to be concerned about being blocked in.

This thread has drawn a pretty large amount of views in a short time. Are there any C&C or Classic officials that might be able to chime in with their thoughts/observations? Maybe the bottom line is that you need to arrive by 7AM to get a spot in your designated area. If that’s the case, then so be it, but I would like to see the parking designations enforced better. I see quite a few “Staff” walking around, could one person be assigned an aisle, and they make sure no one else parks there other than who is supposed to?

I know it sucks, but if you show up with (fill in the make/model blank) number 101, when they only have enough parking spots for 100, then you should be turned away, not allowed to park in someone else’s spot.

That’s not necessary. The point is that we all have nice cars that we would like to show off, and we’re disappointed by the fact that we are not able to due to conditions that are beyond our control.

It was more of a generalization, but we did see that Mazda 6 parked in the wrong place. I did see a black Mazda parked under the German flag section too, but I can’t remember what kind it was. Could have been a Mazda 3….
We drove in to the parking lot, did two drive-arounds looking for space, then left. We didn’t stay.

We drive a Porsche Cayman R, one of 2 in Dallas.

Yea I saw several cars parked like that. And yea I saw the BONE stock corolla parked in the lot as well.. The venue it seems has been outgrown possibly but they could vent cars as in no stockers unless its an exotic/classic etc or a limited type car. I know people should expect to get blocked in i do and yea it sucks but I guess thats part of it. Hopefully it will work itself out without a bunch of drama. It is sad to see nice cars have to park in the other parking lot I did not get to see a couple im sure.

I agree.. Im gonna come even earlier next time. Thats the only option I see for now unless as you stated some staff or somebody sees this and addresses the issue. And ya I saw the black mazdaspeed 6 parked in the classic section.. But as stated this is all over the lot there are cars in every section that dont belong in them. Its confusing

So we (the DFW7 club (BMW 7 series)) is one of the groups that shows up usually 2x a year with 10-15 cars, some stock, some highly modified. As some of the Porsche folks found out, we are in the “know” and they reserve spots for us from 7:30-8:00 am as we fly the brand. At only 2x a year, I don’t feel thats excessive to show off the range of options we have.

We caught all kinds of grief over the cones, but all we did is ask, just like anyone else can (and does), but for those members who get their late – sorry, first come first served. We were full by 7:55 a.m. (10 cars in 8 spots) with others parking in the front (not in the aisles).

Now, when we show up on our own, we don’t park in the display section, as it keeps the shows fresh with new cars. I feel the same as many others, I don’t need to see the same mustang, viper, or vette every month, nor feel the need to show mine off – or clean it :-). With the parking in front of the rows (must have just stared), it makes it almost impossible to move around or get out early, that should likely be addressed as well. I do miss seeing the ultra-rare cars that were showing up last year, as there is no way would bring one up there now.

But before we go trying to change everything and make more rules, common courtesy should be inforced. The lot is just too small now, but hopefully Classis is giving cars & coffee some funding every month (main purpose). Personally I would like to see “themed” months, and less commercialism. The spray on bra crap needs to go (just one example) – or have a separate commercial section and make them pay for the space (again – charity).

The Pizza Hut park or baseball stadium lots are a great idea. I’d just have to remember to not drink that 2nd cup of coffee….

My wife and I have attended Cars and Coffee since about June of ’09. We attend auto shows and events all over this part of Texas. I have a late model Corvette with a few engine and interior mods. I had thought about showing my car, apparently my car is not high brow enough for some people. I have always believed that a persons car (or passion) was his or her private choice. We don’t drive a Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti or Ferrari, so I guess people like us are not welcome. I would bet that the person with the Honda, Mazda or bike is equally proud of there ride. I always thought this event was about charity and fun. I am proud of my Corvette even if some do not approve.

I don’t think anyone has said that your car is not welcome, and it obviously is welcome since they have a designated Corvette area. The problem is that when there are so many of a make/model that they overflow from their area and into another area. Judging by the picture shown earlier, I would venture to guess that there are at least 50 parking spots set aside just for Corvettes, just like there are a number of spots for every other conceivable make/model, be it import, classic, or exotic. I think you’re taking it a little to personal, but since you own a Corvette, it’s understandable, because they seem to be up there with the Mustangs with regards to the sheer number of cars that show up, and therefore tend to be singled out when this topic comes up.

Another reason a “themed” month would be great. Whoever has the “model of the month” would get center stage and more space.

This is exactly why though we only “show” our cars 1-2x a year, but go every month. I’m just as happy to see the tricked out mazda (anyone remember the one last year with the cardboard ground kit?) as the Aston Martin

Bring it out there, get there early, have fun, and next month – sleep in and let someone else show there’s and come as a spectator… It’s all good

I would like to make a few comments
First, Cars and Coffee is great, I love taking my car there, visiting with other enthusiasts and seeing all the other cars.
Second, I think the whole thing is about passion for cars. Passion should mean these things; your car should be clean! (I see cars not even washed there) it should not have any dents, broken or missing parts (unless it is a real race car) it shouldn’t have parts of several different colors or primer.
Third, if you want to show your (fill in the blank) get there early. If the guy who owns a $300,000 whatever can’t get out of bed, then he misses out.

If they had a bigger venue that would be great! more of everything! I would guess that everyone involved in C&C is volunteer and it’s a pretty great show for that and it’s free to everyone!

If it’s all for charity and you want to cut out the riff-raff charge $10-20 to pull your car in. I would pay, and that might solve some problems. 1000 cars for $10 could sure help a charity.

Velocity Mike, I think you come for the right reasons. A lot of the people who might gripe about your car don’t even have something worth showing.

    That’s just my 3 cents.

I see a couple of issues with moving to Pizza Hut Park. 1) Concerts like the one this weekend for Jimmy Buffet have filled up the entire area with RV’s. Nothing wrong with that, but what if this were to happen on a C&C weekend? There is no space for us. 2) Soccer games are a Saturday morning affair and it isn’t just FC Dallas playing out there.

This is a very precarious position for a venue to be in. As was rightly said before, this is a charity event. Can we really turn away the guy in the Civic who might donate $5 and let in the Ferrari owner who might not? I like the idea of having the venue regulate who comes in and who doesn’t. Treat it like a night club. It’s also a terrible idea at the same time. I’m aware that I may get turned away and that’s fine, I see my car all the time and I don’t get my feelings hurt when I’m not front and center. I didn’t buy my cars for people to look at them. I bought them to enjoy them myself. But at the same time, I am not waking up early on a Saturday to walk through a parking lot full of ho-hum cars. And if you like doing that then go to Collin Creek mall. We want people coming back and donating. And what do we need for people to do that? We need eye-candy.

The Plano Police Department does heavy enforcement of that area during C&C because of the unsafe driving that goes on. Lots of complaints came in so the police responded.

    Cheers!

The boys at Classic BMW are doing a great job. The event has been overrun with ‘ho-hum’ cars because it draws a crowd. I think Classic should cone off the entire parking lot and only allow parking for cars that cost north of $100,000. That would weed out the riff-raff. Then if they want to make exceptions for “interesting” they can. Gawkers can park in the field across the street. That’s basically what they do in southern California.

    Completely agree with you.

At the June event, I watched an SLS, LP560-4, and a 2012 Bentley Continental GT (this one later moved into the British section however) go into the spectator parking. Probably because there were over 9000 normal Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. Made me feel a bit disappointed that 2 very show worthy cars had to stay there, and leave from there.

This is why I enjoy *cough cough*’s event better. None of that. That’s why they’ve had some better things there.

Heck, walking down the back row where the Italians park, that was overrun with muscle. Once you got past where the white Murcielago and red 328 were parked, it was just muscle. :FAIL!:

Everyone has a valid point and I agree with seeing the same ol cars everytime I go. I personally drive an acura and I always park in spectator since I would rather see something I don’t see everyday vs. something I can go to a local car meet every week and see all the time. I understand c/c has a non discrimination to all makes but sometimes you just have to say NO. I saw a stock xb in the show and a tc or whatever with what? A custom interior? I’m sorry but those two cars need to go and that interior was really not that “custom”. I also understand big makes such as Vettes/Mustangs/vipers all have a big following in there groups hence there big turnouts. But it gets old seeing the same c6 thats lowered with an exhaust line by line. I love vettes but repetition gets old…I don’t even walk through the american section anymore…the only time I do is to scope out some of the classics parked in the area but most of the time I skip through the vettes/chargers/stangs unless there is something really special (callaway vettes, one off customs, etc…) I remember the first cars and coffee which was awesome…The first few months I attended it was a pretty good mixed showing, but now it seems as though everyone thinks they can show there stock cars which IMO c/c staff will need to do something in the future about that. When I went to the Irvine cars and coffee I wanted to walk down every isle because there was not 10 of the same car parked together with the same if not similar mods.

Anyway not to contradict myself but the C/C staff is doing great…I just hope they can get the organization down a lot better which is the big thing IMO. I know when I first showed up in the beginning they tried there best and did a good job of directing traffic. Now I think they are getting overloaded and realize they cannot control it like they used to so they just let most of the people in.

The bigger venue would be awesome but again some valid points have been brought up. Saying it is always easier than doing it…There would have to be a lot more staff and regulation if they want a bigger lot since you know there is always at least a bad apple in every group. There are also some hefty fees/insurance as I recall you have to go through if you are going to get a bigger venue for the show.

That’s just my take on it…I like the show…I just skip through a lot of the cars now instead of staying the whole day like I used too.
