Is the Cars and Coffee Web-site becoming a money making venture?
If it is, they should drop the Irvine show off this board because this forum is not part of C&C Irvine’s start-up, planning, or execution.
Brent and Josh – Please explain to this community all these new start-ups. You owe that to the folks that helped get the word out about this forum and what it’s initial purpose was. That purpose seems to have changed of late.

July 1, 2008 at 12:53 am #129977AnonymousGuestThen why was the post from a guy in Oklahoma deleted when he asked about starting one in OK City. Are you guys the only ones that can start one in other places and have them be a part of this forum?
Can someone in another city start one independent of you and Brent and affiliate it with this forum? If no – then that is my concern because you or Brent have nothing to do with C&C Irvine. I’m not attacking anyone here, I’m curious.

Sure Cliff…I know Josh had talked to you about it personally, but just in case anyone else has any questions I will put in my thoughts on it. We actually were planning on writing about this in our newsletter that we are planning on sending out this week but I will touch on it briefly here.
This site was created so that all of us who went to Cars and Coffee Irvine could have a place online away from the show where we could share our pictures, conversations, memories, etc. and just to talk about Cars in general as that is the common passion of us all. The Irvine show, is as you know, unlike any other in the world that we know of. However with the help of this site and forum word has spread throughout the world of this great event. Everyone who doesn’t live close enough to attend wishes that they had the same thing in their community. So they come to us and ask for help getting started, and we do that.
We help organize all the “behind the scenes” stuff that allow the show to take place. People might not realize all the work that has to happen to allow something like this to take place every week. That way they are free to just show up at their show and do the same thing that we do in Irvine. Kick tires, make new friends, and share their passion and enthusiasm for cars. The shows will all be Free, cruise-in, grass-roots style shows and you won’t be able to tell the difference between a show in one area and another across the nation.
When the show launched in Vegas the participants and spectators were all so grateful that the show had been brought out there. They get to have just as much fun as we do every Saturday morning but in their own neighborhood. These shows belong to the community, and always will.
We aren’t doing this to promote ourselves, just the idea behind Cars and Coffee, because it is so simple and so unique that it deserves to be shared with anyone who wants to join in. Just like we don’t turn away any car that wants to show in the lot we shouldn’t turn others away in other areas because they arent from here. We shouldn’t be selfish and keep the show to ourselves.
Josh and I both have regular day jobs like everyone else. I drive my 98 Honda Civic to my job at a non-profit in San Juan Capistrano everyday and then come home and work on the site on nights and weekends. We do it because we have a passion for cars and for the car community.
If anyone else has any specific questions feel free to PM Josh and I and we will be happy to discuss.
Thanks!

Who deleted that thread? I know I didnt. Actually that guy in Oklahoma started a “Wheels and Coffee.” He thought “Cars and Coffee” might exclude people who have Trucks or Motorcycles.
Also as the recent Autoblog article explained there are Cars and Coffee’s all over the nation. Just to list a few that I know of that are “independent” of this forum as you put it, Honolulu, Scottsdale, Minneapolis, Orlando.
But if they want to start one and want us to help them by using our site, logo, etc, and have us help them with all the behind the scenes stuff then all they have to do is ask.
If you are worried that we are making money from our sponsors then tell everyone how much you have paid us for the past year to be a sponsor of this site and then how much you have made selling paintings.

To be accurate, what Josh and I talked about at length was the issue with Concourse Motor Cars and why they are no longer a sponsor. He did not explain in detail the expansion of C&C.
Please do not assume that I am against people starting C&C’s in other areas and use that as a straw man to make a point. I am all for starting up as many as possible. I have promoted that. I even promoted it in my post that was deleted yesterday.

This is terribly dishonest and quite disturbing. I have not made one sale from this site. You came to me with the offer so that it looked like you had paying sponsors. You got me involved with Concourse after your deal with them went bad and didn’t say anything to me. That cost me a great deal of money. So don’t you dare question my integrity.
I’m just asking for transparency – that last post of yours Brent is way off the mark.

I apologize for the first part, Josh had told me that he had spoken with you about the Vegas launch so I thought all your concerns had been addressed.
I also apologize for Concours. I had no idea you were involved until I saw your paintings at the event.
Thirdly, regarding your integrity. I know have great integrity and I respect you a lot. I only questioned your concern about us making money because I thought that you would know that any money we have made has gone right back into running this site. I apologize if I said anything to offend you. That is not my intent nor would I ever try to offend anyone here. I am thankful for your contributions to the show and to the site.
regarding your edit: We are transparent that’s why I said if anyone has questions feel free to ask, and also that we were planning on talking about this in great detail in our upcoming Newsletter, although I am not sure what else needs to be covered after this conversation.
July 1, 2008 at 2:57 am #129979AnonymousGuestThank you Brent.
Josh did speak to me about the Vegas launch but not in great detail. I relayed some concerns to him from regular C&C attendees that are not contributors but visitors to the forum. I am all for more C&C’s.
I just think transparency is a good thing when dealing with a community event is all. Just more info is what I mean. It relieves angst among the participants. I don’t think you are hiding anything. I just had questions is all.

I agree that transparency is good which is why we were going to talk about it in the newsletter that way we could make sure that everyone could hear it straight from the horses mouth and not hearsay.
Hopefully anyone that had any doubts will see that we aren’t trying to commercialize the event, and are doing our best to make sure that the other events don’t get commercialized. The ones we have control over anyway. I cant speak nor can I hold any responsibility for the “independents” out there.
July 1, 2008 at 3:38 am #129985AnonymousInactiveSo can we bury this in favor of the newsletter?
